DomeinBeheer Starts With Enterprise GIS

Domeinbeheer starts with enterprise GIS. Wim Tuitman from WSPimc is helping governments and utillity companies in the region to set-up or further improve Geographic Information Systems. Within the EU-funded project "Capacity building for governments and utillity companies" Domeinbeheer now starts using ArcGIS Server for their processes. The advantage of using ArcGIS Server in combination with ArcGIS Desktop is the use of one central database and the ability to share all information on the intranet.

Curaçao Basemap Online

The Topographic Department of Public Works (DOW) is in the process of upgrading the vector base map towards a more meaningful object oriented base map. GIS4C has been assigned together with Esri Nederland and Grontmij Nederland to do the implementation. The base map will be converted and combined with meaningful data. The whole infrastructure has been setup to share the base map via internet. For the processing of survey data dg DIALOG from Grontmij is used. ArcGIS Desktop is used for further data editing, completing the objects and GIS Analyses. ArcGIS Server is used for data management and web enabling. The product GeoWeb is used for the standard user interface to interact with the base map.

GIS4C has also been given the order for the delivery, training and maintenance of new Trimble Surveying equipment.

UNDP project for Disaster Management

A Joint Venture consisting of GIS4C, GESP and University of the West Indies, has won the tender launched by UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) for the construction of a Geographic Information System in the Caribbean aimed at coordinating all operations of assessment of risks from catastrophic events (earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, etc..) and to identify measures for its mitigation.

The project, which is an essential part of the R3i Framework Programme (Regional Risk Reduction Initiative) funded by the European Commission, has a duration of two years and provides data assessments, data modeling, analysis and mapping of the vulnerability of sensitive sites such as towns, ports and airports, power lines and technological networks, power plants, etc

Bureau Telecommunicatie en Post

During the Esri User Conference 2010 in San Diego the Bureau Telecommunicatie en Post was presented with the "Special Achievement in GIS Award". This international recognition has been granted based on the professional implementation of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) for a Telecommunications Administrator, Bureau Telecommunicatie en Post (BTP). The BTP is making use of GIS to administrate frequencies used in microwave links, manage transmitter sites, quality control and supervision on telecommunications operators in the former Netherlands Antilles.

San Diego, California- Bureau Domeinbeheer recieved a Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award today at the 2009 Esri International User Conference (Esri UC) in San Diego, California. The organization recieved this honor for its vision, leadership, and innovative use of Esri's geographic information sytem (GIS) technology. Bureau Domeinbeheer was selected from more than 300,000 organizations worldwide and recognized during today's SAG Awards Ceremony for making extraordinary contributions to our global society.

Bureau Domeinbeheer is using GIS to improve land management throughout the Goverment of Curaçao. Since 2007, the organization has been integrating the most up-to-date information about tenants, payments, and survey and cadastre data into a single GIS. This practice not only aids goverment decision makers, but allows others within the organization to easily access and view GIS data. Service to the customers and community has been improved by using correct, up-to-date, and integrated data.

 

Referendum Curaçao

An example of where a GIS can be used is the Referendum of Curaçao, held at the 15th of May 2009. These maps are created using the offcial result per "Stemlokaal". The result of the Stenlokalen are summarized per region in which they are located.
 
 
 
 

Aqualectra honored by ESRI Inc: "Special Achievement in GIS" Award presented by Jack Dangermond

 
 
Each year, ESRI Inc honors users who do a particular effort inthe advancement of GIS technology: " By embracing GIS technology, these organizations have made extraordinary contributions to our global society and set new precedents throughout the GIS community. Recipients of the Special Achievement in GIS award are submitted by ESRI staff from thousands of organizations worldwide, then personally reviewed and selected by Jack Dangermond."
 
This year our customer Aqualectra Distribution received this prestigious award. It was presented by Jack Dangermond, President of ESRI Inc., during a ceremony at the 28th Annual ESRI International User Conference (ESRI UC) in San Diego on August 6, 2008. Ben Statia, CEO of Aqualectra, personally attended the ceremony, jointly with Inca Dowling (GIS Manager) and further staff who were proud to be recognized for their work. Aqualectra Distribution has implmented the ArcFM UT Product Suite for documentation and analysis of their distribution networks. Eric Sussenbach from GIS4C and Florian Brandi-Dohrn from AED-SICAD also attended to congratulate.
 
 

The foundation Uniek Curaçao receives a software grant from ESRI Inc.

This month the foundation Uniek Curaçao has received a software donation from ESRI Inc.
This enables Uniek Curaçao to build a Geographic Information System (GIS) in which different types of geographic data (maps) can be entered and analyzed. Uniek Curaçao will use the GIS for projects, publications and guides in which maps are used.
One of these projects is the Nature & Culture Guide of Curaçao, the successor of the popular Hiking Map (2001). This new guide will make use of the GIS by mapping the whole island of Curaçao. The Geographic Information System will also be used for educational purposes and projects for schoolchildren, tourists and citizens. The growing awareness of the unique locations and nature on Curaçao is a prime focus of the foundation. The foundation is very much involved in the conservation of there areas. The software grant from ESRI Inc. is a big step forward in the realization of the projects.
